Love your period. Love your body.
I am a mum who is on a mission to remove the shame and embarrassment around having a period and want to encourage everyone to celebrate it!
Like many families, when I was growing up, it wasn’t a topic of conversation and I learned from a young age that talking about periods should be hidden. This created feelings of shame and embarrassment for me. I am determined to not give the next generation the same experience I had, I want my children to be empowered by their period, not embarrassed or ashamed by it.
I discovered that the way to do this is to break the taboo and begin talking openly, positively and confidently about periods. This is why Just Periods was born, for me it is about the long-term positive changes not only in the Period space but in creating powerful, resilient young adults.
Many of us have grown up in a society where periods have been considered unclean and we have been taught from a young age to hide them and complain about them. We have been told that period products are called “sanitary” products and we need to use them as if we are unclean! The narrative needs to change.
I have heard many stories from women who hate and loathe their bodies and their period. I have also heard many stories of past times and in villages where the women came together to allow their period, as a part of life.
If we want our children and the next generation to love themselves and their body, we need to teach them from a young age that periods are not unclean, inconvenient and to be hidden but something to be embraced and celebrated.
Now is the time to Celebrate the Cycle and teach how to be kind to ourselves. It’s time to embrace our feminine energy, as Mothers and Fathers so that we can lead by example and live a life that’s balanced and can be sustained.
I encourage all to lead the way for a positive period culture within your families too.
